According To A Report From The Tennessee Department Of Education, Kingsport City Schools Have Nearly The Double State Average Of In-School And Out-Of-School Suspensions And The Highest Out Of 11 Districts In Our Region. Last Year, The School System’s I-S-S Rate Was 9.8 Percent Verses The State’s 5.1 Percent. City Schools Student Services Officer, Jim Nash, Said The Main Goal With Discipline Is To Apply The Rules Evenly From Case To Case. The School System Is Working To Find Other Options Prior To Using Suspension, Including Extended School Days Or Shorter Term Placement At An Alternative School.
