JOHNSON CITY LEADERS ARE PROPOSING SEVERAL CHANGES TO THE CITY CHARGER. THE ALTERATIONS INCLUDE MOVING THE CITY COMMISSION AND BOARD OF EDUCATION ELECTIONS FROM NOVEMBER TO AUGUST, WHEN THE COUNTY GENERAL ELECTION IS HELD. THERE’S ALSO MOTIONS TO REDUCE THE NUMBER OF READINGS TO PASS ORDINANCES FROM THREE TO TWO, REDUCE THE NUMBER OF TIMES THE PROPOSED BUDGET IS PUBLISHED IN THE NEWSPAPER TO ONLY ONCE, AND LASTLY TO ALLOW THE CITY MANAGER TO MAKE TEMPORARY EMPLOYEE APPOINTMENTS FOR LONGER THAN 90 DAYS. THESE CHANGES HAVE PASSED TWO READINGS ALREADY AND MUST PASS A THIRD BEFORE GOING ON THE AUGUST 1ST BALLOT AS A REFERENDUM FOR VOTERS.
