Opening Statements Are Set To Start This Morning In Wise County Virginia Circuit Court For A Man Accused Of Shooting Norton Virginia Police Chief James Lane. 38 Year Old James Buckland Is Charged With Attempted Murder Of A Police Officer, Assault Of A Police Officer And Several Firearm Charges. Lane Was Responding To A Shoplifting Call When He Encountered Buckland Who Allegedly Began Shooting Into Lane’s Vehicle. Lane And Another Officer Returned Fire. Lane And Buckland Suffered Gunshot Wounds During The Incident. A Verdict Is Expected In The Trial By The End Of The Week.
