Washington County Virginia Leaders Have Voted To Deny A Second Lawsuit Claim Against The County Filed By The Victims In A California Shooting That Involved A Former County Deputy. The More Than 100-Million Dollar Lawsuit Was Filed By The Taylor Ring Law Firm On Behalf Of The Winek Family. It Involves Austin Edwards Who Was Working For The Sheriff’s Office At The Time. Edwards Went Across The Country Posing As A Teenage Boy As A Way To Meet A 15-Year-Old Girl. He Allegedly Shot Three Members Of The Girl’s Family With His Service Weapon And Then Turned The Gun On Himself During A Shootout With Law Enforcement. County Attorney Lucy Phillips Said Edward’s Actions Were Outside The Scope Of His Employment With The County And He Was Acting On His Own Time Away From His Employer.
