Johnson City School Leaders Are Preparing For A Jump In The Numbers Of Third Graders In Their Summer School Program. This Is Due To A New State Law Currently In Effect, That Requires Students Who Don’T Meet State-Mandated Scores On The English And Language Arts Portion Of The Tcap Test, To Attend Summer School, Intensive Tutoring During The School Year, Or Both. If Students Show Adequate Growth At The End Of The Intervention, They Have To Repeat A Grade. Schools Director Of Accountability And Improvement Dr. Robbie Anderson Said She Expects As Many As 45-Percent Of Third Graders Will Fail To Meet State Expectations.
