Hawkins County Educational Leaders Have Passed A Resolution Opposing The State’s New Third Grade Retention Law. The New Law, Which Was Introduced In 2021 But Goes Into Effect This Year, Allows Any Third-Grader Who Has A Score At Or Below Expectations On The English/Language Arts Section Of The Tcap Test, To Be Held Back. The Exceptions Are If They Attend Summer School Or Tutoring. According To Director Of Schools, Matt Hixson, This Would Affect Nearly 300 Third Graders In The School System. The Resolution Opposing This Will Be Forwarded To The General Assembly.
