An Investigation By Special Agents With The Tennessee Bureau Of Investigation Had Led To The Indictment Of A Newport Man In Connection With An Officer Involved Shooting. It Happened December 9th When The Newport Police Department Received A Call Of A Man Waiving A Handgun In The East Broadway Area. Officers Attempted To Initiate A Traffic Stop On 35 Year Old Gary Ball When He Refused And A Pursuit Began. Ball Allegedly Fired Several Shots In The Direction Of Cocke County Sheriff’s Officers And Newport Police. Ball Then Threatened A Female Passenger With A Gun Then Ran From The Area. He Was Eventually Located And Taken Into Custody. Ball Is Charged With Two Counts Especially Aggravated Kidnapping, Nine Counts Of Aggravated Assualt And Evading Arrest.
