WITH KINGSPORT ALREADY USING CAMERAS TO CATCH THOSE WHO RUN RED LIGHTS, JOHNSON CITY COMMISSIONERS HAVE NOW GIVEN THE GREEN LIGHT FOR CAMERAS FOR THEIR CITY. COMMISSIONERS WERE TOLD A RECENT TRAFFIC STUDY SHOWED AS MANY AS 800 MOTORISTS PER DAY RUN RED LIGHTS AT THE WEST MARKET STREET AND NORTH STATE OF FRANKLIN ROAD INTERSECTION. LAST NIGHT, COMMISSIONERS GAVE UNANIMOUS APPROVAL TO BEGIN THE PROCESS THAT WILL ULTIMATELY LED TO INSTALLATION OF RED LIGHT CAMERAS AT SOME CITY INTERSECTIONS. THE NEXT STEP IN THE PROCESS IS TO GET REQUESTS FROM VENDORS OF THE EQUIPMENT. POLICE DEPARTMENT OFFICIALS HOPE THE CAMERAS WILL LEAD TO FEWER DEADLY COLLISONS.
