A JOHNSON CITY MAN AND WOMAN ARE FACING FORGERY AND THEFT CHARGES AFTER THEY MANAGED TO ELUDE AUTHORITIES FOR OVER A YEAR. 46 YEAR OLD WALLACE ASHBY AND 35 YEAR OLD GINGER BOOTH HAVE EACH BEEN CHARGED WITH FOUR COUNTS OF FORGERY, THREE COUNTS OF THEFT UNDER 500 DOLLARS, AND ONE COUNT OF THEFT OVER ONE THOUSAND DOLLARS. IN SEPTEMBER OF LAST YEAR, ELIZABETHTON POLICE BECAME INVOLVED IN THE INVESTIGATION FOLLOWING REPORTS OF FORGED CHECKS PASSED AT MULTIPLE BUSINESSES IN THE CITY. THEN IN OCTOBER OF 2006, A CHECK FROM THE UNITED STATES TREASURY WAS STOLEN FROM A MAILBOX AND FORGED. SGT. MICHAEL MERRITT SAYS THE CULPRITS WERE EVENTUALLY CAUGHT WITH THE HELP OF VIDEO SURVEILLANCE. ASHBY’S CASE WILL GO BEFORE A CARTER COUNTY GRAND JURY IN JANUARY OF 2008, WHILE BOOTH WILL APPEAR IN GENERAL SESSIONS COURT ON JANUARY 11TH.
