The Virginia Resources Authority Has Approved Bristol Virginia’s Request To Be A Part Of The Southwest Virginia Regional Jail Authority. The Approval Now Allows The Authority’s 10-Member Locality Boards To Vote On Allowing The City To Send All Its Inmates To The Authority’s Facilities. The City Opted For The Move Due To Overcrowding Conditions At The City Jail And Because Of The Cost To Build A New Lockup. The City Jail Is Expected To Remain Open Until Mid-2022 To Allow For The Transfer Of The Inmates.
