TO DATE 954 PEOPLE HAVE LOST THEIR LIVES ON VIRGINIA’S HIGHWAYS IN 2007. THE VIRGINIA DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION, VIRGINIA STATE POLICE, AND VIRGINIA DEPARTMENT OF MOTOR VEHICLES ARE CHALLENGING MOTIRISTS TO HELP PREVENT HIGHWAY DEATHS BY FOLLOWING A FEW SIMPLE RULES. AMONG THEM ARE: BUCKLING UP, AVOIDING DISTRIACTIONS, SHARE THE ROAD, DRIVING DRUG AND ALCOHOL FREE, AND ALWAYS OBEYING ALL SPEED LIMITS. ALSO WHEN TRAVELING THROUGH HIGHWAY WORK ZONES, MOTORISTS SHOULD ALWAYS USE CAUTION AND BE ALERT TO CHANGES IN TRAFFIC PATTERNS AND SLOW-MOVING OR STOPPED TRAFFIC.
