The capital murder trial of an escaped inmate accused of killing a deputy sheriff and a hospital guard in Blacksburg will be held in Abingdon in March. Montgomery County Commonwealth’s Attorney Brad Finch says the trial for 25-year-old William Morva will be held in Washington County Virginia Circuit Court, beginning March 4th. It’s expected to last two weeks. Morva is charged with killing Montgomery County sheriff’s Corporal Eric Sutphin and hospital security guard Derrick McFarland in August 2006. Circuit Judge Ray Grubb decided in September to move the trial out of the area after three days of attempting to select a jury for the case, which received extensive news coverage. The manhunt for Morva shut down the Virginia Tech campus on the first day of fall semester classes last year.
