A JOHNSON CITY MAN WHO FACED WEAPONS CHARGES HAS ADMITTED TO THE CRIME IN U.S. DISTRICT COURT IN GREENEVILLE. ERNEST CANIPE PLED GUILTY TO UNLAWFUL TRANSPORT OF FIREARMS AFTER BEING FOUND WITH A FIREARM IN HIS POSSESSION. YOU MAY REMEMBER THAT CANIPE FACED STATE CHARGES AFTER DYNAMITE WENT OFF IN A STORAGE BUILDING BEHIND HIS HOUSE IN SULFER SPRINGS IN 2005. A COUPLE OF MONTHS AFTER THAT, POLICE WERE CALLED TO HIS HOME ON A DOMESTIC DISTURBANCE. HE ALLEGEDLY CAME AT THEM WITH A KNIFE AND THEN TRIED TO COMMIT SUICIDE BY CUTTING HIS NECK. HE RECEIVED 27 YEARS OF HOUSE ARREST IN STATE COURT BUT WAS CAUGHT A SHORT TIME LATER WITH A HANDGUN AND AMMO IN HIS CAR. CANIPE WILL BE SENTENCED IN FEDERAL COURT ON MARCH 24TH.
