A Lawsuit Has Been Filed By Senator Travis Hackworth And Six Other Southwest Virginians Seeking Help From The Virginia Supreme Court In Supporting The Virginia Redistricting Commission. The Commission Was Created By The Constitutional Amendment Approved By Voters Last November. Prison Populations Were Counted In The U.S. Census And Represent A Significant Number Of People In This Region Which Lost Thousands Of Residents Over The Past Decade. The Statute Ties Prisoners To Their Last Known Address, Not The Prisons In Which They Reside. The Suit Argues Rural Communities Expend Substantial Resources On The Prisons, Which Justifies Including Those Populations In Southwest Virginia Districts.
