Residents are being asked to share their memories this week of a historic Tazewell County coal town for a film crew that will produce a PBS documentary. 9th District Congressman Rick Boucher says a crew for independent filmmaker Dan McCoig will conduct interviews with Pocahontas residents on Thursday and Friday. Boucher said producers of the documentary hope to get personal recollections of the once-booming coal town and are interested in old photos and home movies, particularly of miners. The interviews will be compiled on DVD for an organization called Historic Pocahontas. Some will be used for the PBS documentary. Amy Flick, who is helping to coordinate the filming through Historic Pocahontas, said the film producers want to talk to current and former residents, those who lived on the outskirts of town, or people who “have ever taken the train over here to come to the theater or to go shopping.” Pocahontas is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It was Virginia’s first coalfield boom town.
